Larressingle

One of the "Most Beautiful Villages of France"

Our hotel-restaurant in Larressingle, near Condom and Eauze, is ideally located for exploring on foot one of the most beautiful and smallest fortified villages in France. The Gascons often call it "Carcassonne," adding "miniature"... Surrounded by fields and vineyards, nestled in lush greenery, the village of Laressingle stands proudly in the heart of the Gers region. It immerses you in the history of Gascony.

Located on the GR65 (Way of St. James), numerous hikes offering beautiful views of the village are possible around the village.

The smallest fortified village in France

The 13th-century village, encircled by ramparts amidst which a keep, a church, and medieval houses built against the walls still stand, was the property of the bishops of Condom. A bridge spanning the moat and a fortified gate provide access to the center. One pauses to admire the detail of a mullioned window or a studded door. Before leaving, pay homage to the bust of the last Duke of Trévise, who saved Larressingle from ruin at the beginning of the 20th century by pleading its case with wealthy Americans in Boston.

A charming and elegant town

Very close to our restaurant, Condom is immediately noticeable thanks to its cathedral, a vigilant sentinel, which overlooks the old episcopal city. Adjoining Sainte-Marie Cathedral, the cloister led the bishops to their private chapel and to their bishopric. If you stroll through the streets lined with beautiful 17th and 18th-century mansions, stop at the Hôtel de Bourbon with its superb wrought-iron balcony, the Maison Loubières, the Hôtel du Bouzet, or the Hôtel de Gensac. As you walk down to the Baïse River, you'll see the river cruise boats ready to set off on new adventures.

Fourcès and Montréal-du-Gers

Fourcès and Montréal-du-Gers, listed among the most beautiful villages in France, are little gems in the heart of Gascony.

Fourcès is a true departure from the Cartesian spirit of bastides, as it is built on a circle with gently curving houses arranged around its central square, now shaded by plane trees and known for its flower market.

Montréal-du-Gers, the oldest of the Gascon bastides, is a bastide built on a promontory below the Auzoue River. It was founded in 1255 by the Count of Toulouse.

Following a grid plan, the streets lead to the central square with its arcades and half-timbered houses, where the partially fortified Gothic church is revealed.

Three centuries later, the powerful Cardinal Arnaud d'Aux, cousin of Pope Clement V and a native of the village, commissioned the construction of the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the church offers visitors the solemn beauty of its Gothic cloister, its tall square bell tower surmounted by an octagonal tower, and the recently restored frescoes in its sacristy. image Cassaigne Castle

Cassaigne Castle

Located 6 km from our establishment, nestled in the heart of Gascony, the Château de Cassaigne, formerly the residence of the Bishops of Condom, is an exceptional historical site. Built in 1247 by the Abbot of Condom, Montassin de Goalard, it became the country residence of the Bishops of Condom from the 16th century onwards. A victim of destructive wars and pillaging, the château was rebuilt from the 16th century onwards, with its façade dating from the 18th century. It was bought back during the Revolution by the former steward of the bishops, and his descendants are still the owners today. Henri Faget and his wife restored the Château de Cassaigne to its former glory with an Armagnac production that brought renown to this ancestral home. Surrounded by more than 30 hectares of vineyards, it has also become one of the premier locations for the great wines of Côtes de Gascogne.
